I AM GETTING MORE AND MORE IN THE SCARY SPIRIT AS THE NIGHTS DRAW IN, THE WEATHER COOLS DOWN AND THE SHOPS FILL WITH ORANGES AND AUBURNS. HALLOWEEN IS NOW DEFINITELY A BIG OCCASION HERE IN THE UK, AND THERE’S LOADS OF TRICKS-AND-TREATS AVAILABLE ALONGSIDE HAIR-RAISING HOME DECOR AND CREEPY COSTUMES.
Before you buy a new broomstick and start carving your pumpkins, browse some of the Halloween-themed goods from small businesses. I’m absolutely fucking loving some of the crafty goodness that’s been listed this year, so support your local girl gang this spooky season and shop self-employed sassy, badass-y women.
The following are my top picks for Halloween 2019, all handcrafted and made with love by small businesses. I’m in no way affiliated with these babes, nor do I receive anything for sending this out, but as always, I want to promote and empower brilliant women. Not all girls are witches!
Well, what better to think about? Catherine at PaperCraneStitches is a fellow Murderino and it was our mutual love of the My Favorite Murder podcast that first got us chatting! This is just one of her many spooky designs that I’ll definitely be getting my teeth (OK, needles) into.
I just absolutely fucking LOVE the engraved and hand-stamped cutlery from the Hoarder and Maker shop, made by the lovely Ailynn. The Till Death Do Us Part skull spoons are my faves for this season, but there’s lots of great stuff on there not spooky themed, too!
Hannah @ Sew What? By Hannah paints gorgeous ceramic display plates to adorn many a shelf or sideboard. I love this Edward Scissorhands plate but you’ll also find spooky designs including American Psycho, Captain Spaulding and Morticia Addams!
You may have heard of Geek Gal Stitchery before: Naomi is practically an Instagram celebrity! Her Halloween themed patterns are tip top, and this graveyard smash is a must-have (and it’s available in a kit as well as a PDF pattern!).
RevoltingGirls was launched on International Woman’s Day and Gail works hard on feminist designs all year round. I love The Craft for Crafters tee… very on-message for me!
This sticker is just one of a few Halloween designs amongst traditional tattoo etchings on tees, totes and pins over at Tattooed Parents Club! Based in Sunderland, Keilla is always adding new stuff to her Etsy store so check back often to stay on top of her latest drops.
Yeah, OK, so I couldn’t very well not mention Curious Twist, could I? My pumpkin ‘Empty Inside’ pattern comes as a cross-stitch kit with everything you need to get stitching: thread, needle, pattern, instructions, aida and embroidery hoop… so there’s no excuse not to get stitchin’!
Stay spooky… and supporting small business!
